ReDesign

One of the goals of Kansas Can/Redesign is to promote Family/School Engagement.  As we talked with Site Council and our teacher teams, we decided to promote three areas this year.

  1. Family Calendar – Our staff has put together calendar ideas for familes for the months of September, October, November, February, March and April.  The majority of the activities are free, just something fun to do with our families.  You can document your family time and then send the calendars back to school.  We would love to share pictures of our families in action.

September Data (In September 105 out of 450 turned in their calendars)

            October Family Calendar

            November Family Fun Calendar

            February Family Fun Calendar

            March Family Fun Calendar

Camp Cottonwood – This camp is for our families to learn more about Cottonwood, technology, Pathways, Flipgrid, safety, Redesign, Love and logic or just network.  Plan to join us on November 14th from 5:30 pm – 7:15 pm.  More details about child care will be provided at a later date.  If you have something you would like to know more about, send Mrs. Rooks an email at rookss@usd385.org.  We want to share what we know about Cottonwood and make this an evening that will help you and your family.

  1. Parent Teacher Conferences – Parent teacher conferences are October 17th.  Please plan to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress.  These conference times are so important as we continue to work together to make sure that all students have supports in place to be succssful.

Cottonwood Explorations

As part of our redesign journey, we asked students, parents and teachers what they felt was most important at Cottonwood.  The most common answer was building relationships and providing opportunities for students.  We took that information to heart and developed an idea that would be inclusive, fun, educational and meaningful.  From those discussions, Explorations was created.

Explorations will begin October 31st for students in grades 1 through 5 and will run from 8:55 am – 9:30 am.  During this time, students will attend a small group of their choice to explore something different.

     Dates are:

  • Oct. 31
  • Nov. 7
  • Nov. 14
  • Nov. 21
  • Dec. 5
  • Dec. 12
