Welcome to Cottonwood Elementary School. I am proud to serve this community and look forward to working collaboratively with you to ensure student success!
Cottonwood Elementary is home to about 450 students from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Our building has a unique history. This site has been a K-12 building, High School, Middle School and Intermediate School. In August 2000, we opened Cottonwood Elementary, as one of 4 elementary schools in Andover, now we are one of 6. While some of our walls are over 50 years old, others are only 15, 13 or 6 or 3. Inside, we have a dedicated staff, who take pride in working together to provide students with a quality education. Not only do we stress academics, but we strongly believe in building relationships and making memories. As we work with students, it is our goal to help each one become individuals who make good choices, problem solve and become responsible citizens.
Personally, I graduated from Kansas State University in1988 with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies. In August, I began my 25th year with the Andover schools and 31st year in education. I became the principal at Cottonwood in 2002. I can't believe this is my twentieth year as the principal. Where does the time go? My husband, Mark, and I spend our spare time following K-State football and basketball. The rest of our time is spent hanging out with Brinkley, our Goldendoodle. Brinkley is a certified therapy dog and King of the house.
As we begin the new school year, know that the Cottonwood staff is committed to the education and success of each child and we want to establish a strong partnership between home and school. I hope you will come to school to visit classes, have lunch, share a talent, volunteer, participate in PTO and/or site council, and attend conferences.
Sincerely,
Shari Rooks
